Remote Man by Elizabeth Honey

This story is all about email. ' Remote Man' is having a rough time. His Mum is stressed out and needs a break. When things get really bad and his Mum throws the remote control at the TV, Remote Man goes to visit his cousin in the Northern Territory. And that's where it all starts. He and his cousin think they have stumbled on an animal smuggling ring and the chase begins. Most of the story is told through emails between Remote Man and his cousin, Katie, and other friends they meet along  the way.

I enjoyed this story. It is a real 21st century adventure and the characters are very individual and funny with 'voices' that come through loud and clear in their emails. It also has a great environmental theme. I thought Katie should have got into a lot more trouble when she hopped on a plane to America, without telling anyone, to help Remote Man catch the smugglers.

Anyone who is into computers, email and adventure will enjoy this story. But you don't have to be a computer nerd to enjoy the fun characters and how they go about catching the smugglers. It would also be good read for people who like stories about doing something good for the planet.
