Considered
one of Shakespeare's finest tragedies, Othello is a story of
jealousy, prejudice and the clash of cultures. All of Shakespeare's
tragedies have a tragic hero, or 'protagonist' who is put into a
situation of conflict which he must resolve. A combination of bad luck
and misjudgement lead to the hero's death. Othello kills his wife
Desdemona, convinced by his general Iago that she has betrayed their
love. During the play he struggles with pride.
